I'm curious what your laws about that are. Is the tree extending over his property at all?

Were I am the neighbor is free to trim any tree extending onto their property as long as it will not harm the tree. On the flip side, if my tree damages someone else’s property I’m not liable.
If your municipality says something similar I’d just leave the damn tree as it is and bait him into causing you property damage as he has vowed to do. You’ll get your tree t rimmed for free and probably be awarded some damages to boot.

This was exactly on my mind, where I am unless the tree is extended over his property his position makes as much sense as me going to the neo yuppies near me and demanding that they trade their X5s for M5s because I like sedans better than SUVs..
the only other possibility is if you're in an hoa and he's an officer in which case he probably can act this nutty..

If the tree is on your property, they can legally do nothing about it, right? I’d say let him have at it if he wants and then take them to town if they touch it, lol.

Wh ere I am you’re free to trim any tree that extends over your property line as long as the tree is not harmed. If my tree causes damage to someone else’s property I am not liable.

Be stealthy then.
But can you call the cops on him if he touches the tree? Seems like you could.

After reading a couple of stories on reddit the last thing anyone should do is fuck with someone else’s tree, at least in the USA.

I have a nice understanding with my next door neighbor: I don’t complain about his tree branches on my roof and he doesn’t complain about my tree branches in his driveway.
(But similar deal, I’m going to cut the elm down as soon as I can afford to because it’s eventually going to do some major damage and the leaves drive me up the wall).

thats pretty much the deal we have on the other side who do actually have some overhang but dont mind it (ive asked)
my grape also grew over on to their side... offered to fix that but they were all like... free grapes man... i really like that side (they arent exactly law abiding tho)

Wow. Quite a bit different than what I just went through.
There’s a tree in my front yard that has a bunch of branches hanging into my walkway, the neighbor’s walkway and the sidewalk. The landlord hasn’t done anything about it so I grabbed my pruners and went to work.
I’m really not in physical condition to haul the leaves and branches to the dumpster so I placed them in the strip of lawn between the street and sidewalk hoping that my landlord would take care of them. Today, whilst I was out on the porch talking to a friend of mine, the neighbor came out and was asking who took care of trimming the tree. I said that I did it and she was extremely grateful and had her son come out and take care of the branches and stuff.
This is the kind of neighborhood interaction I love, where everyone does what they can to make things a little bit better for everyone.

thats how i’d like it to be too... and well used to be
had a lovely elderly pair next to us before..they were fantastic neighbours always up for a chinwag or an evening beer in their garden (wich was beautifull but the nimbys ripped it all up in favour of tiles) but the husband got too sick to keep living independantly so they sold it and moved to a home

It must be the driveway’s fault...
